We have found a FDH we would like to employ and understand we are no longer able to process the paperwork ourselves... So, can anyone recommend an agency/advise on those to be avoided?
Please don't suggest AsiaExpat we have already spoken to Evelyn and she can't help.

Is the DH Philippina or Indonesian? If she is Indonesian only an agency that specialize in Indonesian helper can process.

Hi bod,
May I ask, why cant we do the FDH's immigration papers ourselves. I have always done it in the past & never had a problem.
Have the rules changed now?
Appreciate your reply...thanks.

Your guess is as good as ours seriously_flawed and axptguy38 - We have always done it ourselves in the past?
A lot of wasted time on our part with a visit to Immigration; they told us what we needed to do only to get to the Ph Consulate and them say the complete opposite. Long story short (and with no explanation) is that we cannot process anything without an agency as of Jan 2009
Does anyone have any recommendations on Indonesian Agencies in Central - I'm all Googled out?

bod,
Are you hiring an Indonesian helper this time and not one from the Philippines? Then it is a fact that you need an agency to process the papers (insisted upon by the Indonesian Consulate).
Please support our advertisers:
As FKKC says, Indonesian helpers can only be processed through agencies. This is different compared to Filipinas.

Hmmm another long story short found a Filipino helper who quickly showed her true colours so had to start again and have an Indonesian one we would like to employ. Understand that we DO need an agent in this case but the agencies don't all deal with the Indonesian helpers process.
PHEW! This is like a full time job trying to work out whats what...

Indeed. Only some agencies, I believe authorized by the Indonesian consulate, are "licensed" to deal with Indonesian helpers.
And yes, it is a bit of a hassle.
Please support our advertisers:
ALL agencies need a license to deal with a consulate as well as a government license from HK. However, some agencies choose not to seek a license from Indonesian consulate because the applications and working with the Indonesian consualte can be very difficult and take a really long time to process.
The Indonesian's don't enjoy the same DH political voice the Filipinas have developed over the years in HK so the process time and the fees they pay to find jobs here in HK are too high.

Samjham, What I have found out in the last couple of weeks is...
Filipino DH - You are now required to process with an agent (no real explanation as to why this rule has changed). Indonesian DH are also required to process with an agent.
If the helper has had their contract 'terminated' UNLESS the termination is due to 'employers death or financial' reasons they are required to leave HK once their visa has expired and not return until their new contract and visa has been issued.
They can either leave HK for their home or Macau
If the helper has completed their existing contract they do not have to leave HK and can stay until their contract and visa is issued.
Agency costs differ from agent to agent and what nationality they are. Those I have spoken to for Filipino vary from $2600 upwards but this also depends on whether they are returning to the Phillipines or Macau. The costs did include Immigration, PH Consulate, Medical and flights if required.
With the Indonesian Agents again the costs vary $2000 upwards and it has not been as easy to find an agent that can help. Cost inc. immigration, consulate and medical
Make sure the cost is only incurred by you the employer and not the helper also!
I have no idea what is required with rules for Thai, Indian etc FDH
Hope that helps a little...

My original thread has deviated some what.
ED - We all have the same questions to ask/advice to seek with regards to the process required when we have found a FDH to employ; it would be good to have something within the Domestic Help section on here as a guide to say THIS is the process/what you need to do.. THESE are some possible agents to contact..

Anyone going to post an Agency to process Indonesian Helpers here????

I know nothing about Indonesian helpers personally having only done my homework on Filipino helpers to employ one, but here goes.... Try asking the Indonesian Consulate who the agencies are that they take back handers from - sorry - I mean their 'authorised agencies'. That is how it works here I have heard. Hence the Consulate have no interest in taking on new agencies. The Indonesian agencies can get their pound of flesh from the helpers they process who are desperate for work. What is to stop them when helpers are forced to use whatever agency the Consulate says and no one polices them? I am not saying don't employ an Indonesian, or that all the agencies are bad - I am sure they REALLY need the work, but do your research online, check just how much they charge the helper. Be FULLY INFORMED of the process you are buying into which lands innocents on HK shores for your benefit and the exploitation which might or might not be taking place. Just do 10 mins looking on Google with a search like "Indonesian Consulate", "agencies" and "helpers" to get the idea.
You should read the following regarding exploitation that I think should not be tolerated in a civilised society: http://www.mfasia.org/mfaStatements/F129-HongKongDomesticWorkers.html
Then make up your own mind on how to do the right thing...

Hello BOD, maybe if you pm me I can give you some ideas re FDHelpers.
Have a some experince in that area

This agency only deals with Philipines. We had found a helper and they did all the paperwork, they were reasonably priced, helpful and thorough. It was also recommended by a philipino helper as a trustworthy agency. Perhaps you could ask your helper if they know of a good one, or maybe the consulate has a list of indonesian ones.
