Hi,
Are Good Friday and Easter Monday legal holidays for helpers? I'm confused as mine just asked me if she would need to work on Friday if I had to work. Does anyone know if these two days are legal holidays we need to give our helper?
Thanks.

These days do not seem to be on the list (Labour Department - Foreign Domestic Helpers page)

Good Friday and Easter Monday are NOT statutory holidays, so you have no obligation to give them. However, many people do give them, as well as the Saturday.
List of statutory holidays: http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/faq/cap57f_whole.htm#q1
List of general holidays: http://www.gov.hk/en/about/abouthk/holiday/
If you want to give only one day off, you might consider Saturday instead of Friday since that gives uninterrupted leave the whole weekend.
Note that last Saturday was a statutory holiday (Ching Ming Festival) and I know a few employers who forgot that one. This would be a good time to compensate.

Thanks for your help. I'll give Friday, but maybe not all Monday.

For next time - I generally offer to let my helper swap days at CNY (not important for her) for days at Easter (she goes to church). YES, I know it's not technically legal (swapped holidays need to be taken within 30 or 60 days or whatever) - but it works for all of us.
