Hello.
I am seeking a proper wage for part-time helper just working for Sunday.
Her duty includes house cleaning, cooking, and babysitter of my 3 years old. I work home, so baby sitting job is not so hard for her.
Have not talked about working hours, however as she is willing to work for long hours, 8-6pm is what I am considering right now, and will last only 4 months while I am in HK.
Not willing to talk about leagal issue, but she is a full-time helper for others, therefore working for me PT is her extra income.
Have no idea how long, she works for her full-time job, nor how much she earns.
I told her to tell me how much she would like to earn (she used to have same PT situations), but she has not told me yet.
Any advise is highly appreciated.

Before we hired our current helper, we used to have a part-time local cleaner come in to clean our house a couple of times a week. We paid her hK$60 per hour. I also remember we had to buy some sort of part-time insurance for her. Can't remember how much that was, but it wasn't too expensive (maybe a couple of hundred per year?)

Thank you. I thought around $50-60 should be fine, as I read in one thread which said "noone wants to work lower than $40".
Well, the day I posted was the first day she help me, and she told me that one guy pays her $100 which I thought was too high.
As it is just a part time, I told her just $80 (thought its still high rate for her PT job), as she lives in my building, no travel time for her.
As I was talking to her, in her country, wives of my national become rich due to their husband. Therefore I think she thought she can charge me more than others she works for.
Oh well. Was happy with her characters (thought its most important), but I am not happy with the hours she is willing to work.
She now wants to work for shorter hours. (making more than she thought she could???)

If I were you, I would set the payment per hour, not per visit. If you say $600 for Sunday, then you will get some people, like this woman you mention, who will try to reduce the hours they work and still insist on the $600. So it's better to say $60 per hour and then tell her you need her for 10 hours.
Anywhere between $50 - $80 per hour is fine. Some bachelors (esp. expats) let themselves get fleeced and pay $100 per hour, and the helper only irons 6 shirts in 2 hours! It really makes you wonder ...
Anyway, when I read your post, I feel worried because if this helper you have in mind is already trying to pull one over you, she might turn out a troublemaker. And remember, if it doesn't work out and you let her go before your 4 months in HK are up, she might try to extort money from you by threatening to report you to the Labour Department. Although it's only her word against yours, it's a hassle you don't need.
Maybe you should try to find someone else? Whereabouts in Hong Kong are you located?

Yes, I did agree to pay per an hour, but after we did, she said 9-2pm is fine with her.
It will not going to give me enough hours to do my work. (Not house work).
What I need is a full time helper for my kid as I am not able to find daycare or nursery. (Wharever I found does not have any openings)
BTW, I live in Olympic area, Snow Rose.
The PT helper I found wants to work for me full time when her contract
finishes (there are only two of us and easier work for the helper than her current contract serving 2 houses, 5 people including disabled full time), and another helper from builing just to be fired asked me to hire her as well.
If someone local fires her(the second one) just after a few months, may not be a good helper...
Oh well, I am not type of person who can be an employer I guess.
Still trying to find nursery, daycare or helper for 4-5 days a week.

Actually there is no nursery / daycare / creche option in Hong Kong - except for those government run ones targetting low income families. So if you want childcare 4-5 days a week for 4 months, I suggest you get a full time or part-time nanny (see Annerley Midwives or Rentamum). If you take this route you will get high quality childcare fairly quickly but it's expensive - about $100 per hour, or $12,000 - $16,000 per month.
If you sign a FDH contract, by the time the Immigration Dept has finished with the paperwork, your 4 months in HK will be half finished!
