Helping a Helper

This is the story and I would appreciate any suggestions.

A helper entered a contract less than 6 months ago with a family where the employer is in the police force.

Aparrently she is being mistreated (never mind the details - it's hearsay anyway). She decided to give her one month's notice.

Once she has done so, she received a notice from the employer that he will do anything in his powers to prevent her from working in HK ever again and of course things have gone from bad to worse. She heard and fears that he will put things in her belongings and blame her for theft.

Any suggestions what to advise her?

I would say that going to the police is pointless for two reasons. First one is quite obvious and second since nothing has happened yet.

Sadly interesting because it's not uncommon for people of authority to abuse their power.


First, if she has any proof of this "notice" or "threat" that her employer's threat, it would be good for her to keep for future reference just in case anything goes awry. I would also suggest that if such evidence exists, then she may leave and seek help at her local consulate. (They can sometimes provide housing and refer legal assistance where necessary). She can go and seek advice. At least if she does this, there will be a record of some sort just in case.


I think the best way is to request for assistance from her consulate because even if the employer doesn't "frame" her in whatsoever manner, since she has chosen to break her contract. The employer could give her a bad release which could hinder or cause her to get future employment.

He will definitely give her a bad release letter. I was more thinking about how to get that proof of his threats or avoid that risk.

Is it possible for her just to leave the house before the end of the month without risking anything?
