As I am new to HK and FDH's, I want to know if anyone has insurance for their helper. It is mentioned in the immigration or Labor paperwork, but when I called was advised not to worry about getting it. However, I would like to make sure incase they are sick and require medical treatment and if they injure themselves. Thx

It's a legal requirement. But you don't have to "worry about it" as it's really easy! Most agencies will arrange insurance for you as part of their service package. Another option is going to a bank like HSBC or Bank of China - they both have packages.

I) you dont need to go through an agency. I have had my new helper for 2 weeks and she was recomended by a friend. We interviewed many.

2} Have a look a royal sun aliance, i did alot of reaserch and they seemed to have the best policy.

3) whats an extra $500 to $700 dollars a year for piece of mind and knowing that if she does get sick or requires expensive dental your not going to have to find the money to cover it, or at least most of its is covered.

We use Zurich. 1400 for the two year contract if memory serves.

Apart from insurance for the helper it is also insurance for you in case something happens to the helper in your home.

We just bought from Hong Leong Insurance (formerly known as Dao Heng Insurance) for $360 a year.
