I have recently identified an indonesian helper that I am keen on hiring. She was terminated after 3 years with her last employer and does not possess a release letter. She is currently with an agent who wants to charge me and herself exorbitant fees in order to process the papers. I have also called other Indonesian agencies but have been told that they will not accept a helper from another agency. I don't understand why. So I really need help with understanding:
1) What is the CORRECT process?
2) How difficult is it to process a terminated case by myself (if at all possible)?
3) Is there a reliable and 'honest' Indonesian agency that you could recommend

I'd like to know too. We know an Indonesian lady we want to hire who will be released due to her emloyer's repatriation in September but have heard that she will need to return to Indonesia for 3 months AND then pay 4 months salary to the agency ON TOP OF what I would have to pay the agent. This in effect leaves her with no salary for 7 months which doesn't sound fair to me.
What can we do to get around this? Can I apply in person to the Indonesian consulate in HK? It would be cheaper and quicker for me to fly to Jakarta for 2-3 days to process the papers if need be if that can make it happen more smoothely and without being 'robbed' by the agency.
Any advice would be much appreciated here too!

Try a search on this forum - this has come up before.
You must use an agency that is designated by the Indonesian consulate and you must pay many times the legally allowed fee...
There is no way around this. The HK government knows of this corruption but they refuse to act.

OK Ed, then how does it work with the Indonesian Helpers registered here in asiaxpat? I did a search and there have to be at least 70-80 Indonesians registered on this site alone. Do they have to go through another agency as well as asiaxpat? If not, can we ask her to just register here with you (even paying any advertising fees ourselves) and then pay the asiaxpat agency fees even though we have already found the one we want and don't need the 'introduction services' you offer?
If this would work it would be a win win situation! The only ones to lose would be the nasty, greedy, exploitative agencies.

If you hire off this site or you find an indonesian helper without an agency introduction you still have to find an agency to process the helpers papers with the Indonesian consulate. If you try to do it on your own they will not play ball.
It is my understanding that if you have found a helper independent of an agency that the agency you engage to process will charge much less - I think 3k is the best you can do on the fee.
We tried to get an agency licence from the Indonesian consulate - that is not possible.

Actually, the helper can sue the agency to recover anything in excess of the legally allowable fee. There was a case on these facts decided in the Small Claims Tribunal. I would not necessarily advise doing that, however, since the agency would be sure to blacklist her in the future.
