It does mean Church of Christ, but Iglesia di Cristo is independent of the American "United Church of Christ", the latter being one of the more "full on" evangelist sects.

Iglesia di Cristo is the second largest religion in the Philippines. Given the size and mainstream orientation, I wager it is "down the middle" as previous poster says.

The Iglesia ni Cristo[9] (pronounced [ɪˈɡleʃɐ ni ˈkɾisto]); Tagalog for Church of Christ; also known as INC, or Iglesia[10], formerly Iglesya ni Kristo, is the largest entirely indigenous Christian[11] religious organization that originated from the Philippines[12] and the largest independent church in Asia.[13] Due to a number of similarities, some Protestant writers describe the INC's doctrines as restorationist in outlook and theme. [14], but nothing can be found to connect the INC to the Restoration Movement. Felix Y. Manalo officially registered the church as a corporation sole with him as executive minister on July 27, 1914[15] and because of this, most publications refer to him as the founder of the church.[16] However, the official doctrines of the church profess that Jesus Christ is the founder of the INC[17] and that Felix Manalo was God's last messenger, whom he sent to re-establish the Christian Church to its true, pristine form[18] because the original church apostatized. They believe that the apostatized church is the Roman Catholic Church[19], and proclaim that Catholic beliefs [20] shared by most Christians, such as the Trinity - which is according to the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church as the central dogma of Christian theology[21]- are proof of this apostacy. The organization does not believe in the Trinity, nor that the divinity of Jesus and the Holy Spirit are Biblical.[22][23][24]

On August 31, 2009, Iglesia ni Cristo's Executive Minister Eraño G. Manalo died of cardiopulmonary arrest. Eduardo V. Manalo is expected to succeed him as leader of the Iglesia ni Cristo.[2

there was a post here sometime ago regarding a helper who is connected with said church...

members can be fanatical to a certain extent, and there are many rules like not being allowed to miss service, giving tithes etc.

whatever religion your helper embraces, make sure that she understands that this should not interfere with work in any way, and that she should allow for flexibility should her services be needed for certain day that may coincide with service days etc.

better still make this in writing including that should it disrupt or interfere with her work, that this would be grounds for dismissal and let her acknowledge it

matsai, believe me, if you employ this lady, you won't have any problem regarding her religion, Iglesia ni Cristo. She is required to go to church twice a week for an hour, normally one sunday and one thursday, but there are other schedule depends on her holiday, they also have saturday or wednesday. She can only go to church during her days off but its up to you both if you have mutual agreement for her to attend the mid-week one. About her voluntary church donations, that is up to her, it is just the same as the other religions, they have donations as well. I heard and saw, most of the members gave bet. HKD5 or 10 or 20. And its not true that if she wont be able to go to church services for several occasions, she will have her name published in a wall of shamed. That is her own personal faith, so as long as it does not affect her job, then there is nothing wrong with it.

germanboy, I don't see the problem. She should have no issues going to mass one evening a week in addition to Sunday. As long as it is during her free time, no problem.

ah, that rings my bell finally. If that weekday-going-to-church falls on an evening when me or my wife finished work and stay at home, I have to respect her right to go out to do some personal things. After all, I dont want to lock up a Filipino as if she was an inmate in prison...

but can be more "fanatical" - cult like...

so long as religion

1. does not interfere in her work, and

2. that she is made to understand that she has to allow flexibility in her work schedule (specially when it supposedly clashes with church service and events) -

3. that she does not force or impose her beliefs to the household and family members, and applying it when running the household

then there should be no issue at all.

and it also works the other way around too... employers shouldn't impose their religion on their helpers too

Hi Matsai, this is almost a year already.

I am a member of Iglesia ni Cristo or Church of Christ in English. I am working here in hongkong, Can I ask you a question?

Why do you want to hire an Iglesia ni Cristo member?

Was there someone who recomend to you about hiring an Iglesia ni Cristo member?

Some information above are not true!

Yes we have worship service twice a week,Thursday and Sunday.Other locales(same as parish in Catholic church) have wednesday and Saturday, the lesson of wednesday is the same as thursday, and Saturday is the same as of Sunday! the Church allowed to have this schedule so that the brethrens can attend the worship service if they are not available on thursdays and Sundays. Yes also we are admonished to not neglect our worship service to God as ths is our duty to Him. But we are not fanatics,we are faithful to the teaching of our church coming from the bible.

In the Philippines we are sought after by most company to hire because we do not join in the labour unions! We will be expelled from the church if we are caught joining labour unions. Members are not encourage to go against their master. If they dont like their master, they are encourage to resign instead of going against by means of strike. as long as we are not persecuted by our employers,we have no reason to leave our employment,as we are admonished also to work,to support our family. We are also admonished to be faithful to our employer.

Thanks! and God bless you!
