Do I have to write the reason for termination?

Hi there,


I would like to terminate my helper's contract (need a change) but she is very good and efficient at her job. I would still recommend her to future employers so can I just write down 'Break contract' in the termination letter without having to write anything negative down? I'm planning to get another helper.

And employers will still want to know why you are not re-hiring her - assuming that no one would replace a good helper with an unknown one, just for a change.

There must be some other reason why you want to break contract, if there is a negative reason, then word carefully on the letter to immigration this reason. It is not fair that another employer should get this lady if she has some problems. If other peolple are willing to take her on, then at least they will be forewarned.

We have a big problem with our FDH, which w ehave written to immigration about, they thought is was quite urgent and replied within a couple of hours, enclosing an drop down form for her immediate dismissal, however although we know ours steals, we would like to catch her "red handed" first, so that she will immediately be deported back to her home country, and no other employer will have to put up with her. Apart from being a small time thief, ours will clean our place reasonably well, as long as we tell her what to do all the time, she will not use her own initiative, she always has a pleasant attitude, till she gets used to you, then she abuses her privilages, so in our case immigration are forewarned before we fire her

I'm terminating our helper's contract as we are relocating and want to get another helper to move with us to the new country. If I put that down as the reason, immigration will not allow me to employ another.

Hi M, I think you will find it is not that easy to move a new helper out of HK if you are re-locating somewhere else, I think they have to be with you at least a year, then you have to apply for visa's etc, plus if you have just recently terminated the one you have, immigration might make things more difficult for you.

Thanks for all your advice...its been an eye-opener! I think I'll have to go to the immigration to check directly with them.
