Need Help

I am looking for a helper and my existing helper is leaving on the 21st of October. She resigned due to personal reason. I have 2 young children and my husband most of the time has to travel back to the states.

Anyone has helpers out there that they could recommend would be greatly appreciated.

On the other hand, I found a helper here on this site that I liked and interviewed. She seems to be great and 2 year finished contract .

After all the horror stories I have read, I am a little skeptical.

This helper said that her boss would like her to extend her contract and she does not want to do so. Therefore she told me that I might not be able to contact his current employer. Even if I did contact her current employer he might says bad things about her because he wants her to stay. So how can I check reference? Does anyone has any good idea? Is her excuse sound? Since she only has been here 2 years how can I check any reference besides just her present employer?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Call the employer anyway, see if they back up the helper's story. Then decide what to do. On no account would I not speak to the current employer.

Without going into details, we had a nightmare/labour tribunal/police involvement with our last helper. Safe to say, she received no reference letter from us, and no employer has called us. I wrote a letter to immigration and a copy of the police report (as the matter involved child safety). I received a lovely letter back from Immigration saying they had put my letter on the helpers file. Since there was no prosecution - the Immigration could not refuse a visa based on it, but they said should future claims be made of bad behavior it certainly would count.

This helper is now working again in HK. Not, thankfully with children. In conclusion - we did not talk to her former employer!

Get both sides of the story.
