Hi, we are leaving HK in 5 months. Our current helper does not want to go to Canada, as she wants to be close to her family.

Is there an agency or how can we go about finding a helper to go to Canada? We are not in a rush to bring az helper with us when we movce, it can be a few months after

I think the only way to bring a helper to Canada is as a caregiver... she'd need to have certain qualifications and you would have to show a reason for having her there...

You can call Evelyn in our office if you have questions 2815 2520

Thanks beancurd, will look at it now.

I know that the wage is higher in Canada and all that goes with it. We arew willing to do all the legal aspects of it. beerboy, you always seem so negative about the dh situation.

goodness! I'm sure jassy is just trying to let her helper have a great opportunity. most helpers would jump at the chance. jassy, maybe you could talk to your helper and work out an offer of letting her go home once a year and having a lot of minutes of phone calls per month or something. Distance is a state of mind. it might help her to know that there are lots of DH's in Toronto (where are u going?) from the Phillipines. I've been to playgrounds in good neighborhoods there which remind me of HK as all the kids are with Dh's from the Phillipines!! She willl worry about being alone. I think you just need to do some research online or call friends, etc. I could ask my friends' helper to write to her or I might be able get you a phone number of a dh in Canada. Maybe there are some here who used to work there? i think she's scared, but she might be able to change her mind?good luck.

Jassy, do you have children?

Is it illegal for the dh to perform Domestic chores whilst on a childcarer visa?

Can you buy insurance like in HK? What if she gets injured badly and requires large medical fees? etc

notyou,

We have discussed it with her many times and given extras, but she says it really is too far from home for her. We currently let her go home every 6 months to visit. We don't want to push it anyway with her, if she really doesn't want to come.

We have been running into situations with her over the past month or so, and have decided if we bring or have helper in Canada, we would like to start fresh with a new one. We actually have one in mind we like nd she wants to go with us (even though we have not discussed it with her)

beerboy - we do not underpay. maybe u do, but others do not. Keep to yourself.

tpol-we do have 1 child. The insurance/medical is not an issue.

Good luck. I'd love to hear if you are successful in bringing a helper to Canada and how the process works! I may want to do that at some point. Thanks!

I have heard bringing a helper to Australia is VERY VERY difficult (or impossible).

We have decided to hold off on bringing a helper to Canada. Going to see how we can manage on our own first
