Hello we will be employing our DH for the first time and just need some guidance with the below
- how many holidays do you generally give and when - ie/ every 2 years for 7 days?
- do you have to create a separate contract relating to the meals allowance/travel allowance - or is this something that the employer can create themselves
- similarly a contract re: damages etc..that they pay if they break something?
I know all trivial but want to make sure Im doing it properly..
thanks

"- how many holidays do you generally give and when - ie/ every 2 years for 7 days?"
It's 7 days a year minimum if memory serves. We give way more than that. She gets all our holidays off basically. So several weeks a year. This is quite common among expats.
"- do you have to create a separate contract relating to the meals allowance/travel allowance - or is this something that the employer can create themselves"
No. The travel allowance is set by law (one return trip home per contract), as is the food allowance, so there really is no need for a separate contract. Anything you want to give beyond that is at your discretion and thus does not need to go in the contract.
"- similarly a contract re: damages etc..that they pay if they break something?"
That could go in the normal contract, but there should be no need really. In any case I think flexibility is called for here. If she breaks something on occasion and not through negligence it is better to forget the whole thing. Just as if a family member breaks something. Putting that sort of thing in the contract seems a bit petty.
For really expensive stuff and negligence, good helper insurance will cover it.

please ensure that you have a written manual for her reference with items that you have discussed regarding her employment i.e. food allowance amount, transportation, vacation leaves etc etc. and have her counter sign it.
also include jobs and responsibilities (but not limited to), how the household is run etc.

Doesn't have to be complicated.
"Dear Sir or Madam,
We wish to hire so-and-so from date. As ours is a busy household, we need her to help us with household duties.
Yours Sincerely,
Name"

Also if you do make her pay for breaking something, you can only deduct a maximum of $300 a month.
