Thanks to those posters who helped out with comments on my dilemma with new helper.
Update -things have settled quite a bit and new helper has proved she is good cleaner ,ironer ,clothes washer and now is on time and surfaces to help with the early morning getaway to work -very early in my case!
She is a terrible cook. I am cooking .
I am now thinking that she is probably an improvement overall on the very competent although somewhat slapdash manipulative and dodgy previous helper.
An excellent experienced helper I know and trust told me I needed to get used to helper ,and let the new helper also get used to my requirements. think she might have been right.
I was too busy to seriously look for another helper and after the crew that I got over to interview from this site before this hire through a friend-well, sorry ,but not inspiring....smart and a good cook may be less desirable than one who is a bit slow ,but pretty straight.
So...
This may have in fact turned out ok.
I am disappointed re the cooking though and have no time to teach her-maybe I will look at the homegas lessons but we live way out of town...

There are cooking classes at YWCA as well. Anyone can be taught to cook at least competently, assuming they are motivated.

not sure she can follow a recipe -gave her a list of duties etc and she told the Philipino handyman that she couldn't read it..so will see...cara i think you patient approach is the one to try...
