Question on Visa

ORIGINAL POST

Hi - we have had our helper since last November (2008) and she has been back to the Philippines twice since being with us. Last time she went she renewed her passport

She is now telling me that she needs to go back to PH in January to renew her visa. Is this correct? Surely this is done when the contact began with us.

Can someone please clarify please? I have checked the consulate website but cant find anything relating to this.

There seem to be some new rules in place from HK Immigration. Similar thing happened to our helper. Call the Immigration hotline and ask: 2824 6111

It's the first time I've heard of this. And I don't understand it.

Which visa to renew? If she's Filipino, she doesn't need to have a Philippine visa, does she? The only visa she needs to renew is her Hong Kong working visa which is issued by the Hong Kong Immigration. If you have a new passport, you just need to bring your old passport (where the visa is affixed) and the new passport to travel.

It's a different story though if you changed names (got married).

My helper's contract and visa finished at different times. She came to us from another family which might explain the difference but she's going to renew hers here in HK. Sounds weird that she has to go back to the Phillipines, I'd check that out if I were you.
