I have met Indonesian girl and want to get her to HK to work for me as DH. I belive this should be very legal thing to do to get her VISA to stay with me in HK. Has anyone done something similar - please comment.

If she becomes unhappy with you she could easily accuse you of sexual coercion. Not saying this will happen. Just beware. Much simpler if she is not your employee.

I would say if it is a long time you have known this girl then it may be Ok to see about getting her to hong KOng on a DH visa, but axptguy38 is also correct if things go wrong once she is here.

I had a friend who did that with his Thai girlfriend. They kept getting hassled at the airport everytime she came to HK to visit him on a tourist visa, so eventually they decided to get a DH visa for her to stop all the hassles at the airport.

what is the 'employer/bf' only holds a working visa? can he hire his gf as helper?

So now we know one of the reasons many employers are required to use an agency to process the DH.

Working visas allow hiring a helper providing you have enough income.

Thanks for all replies!
Her visa is under processing now. By the way - do you know if she can come to HK with tourist visa to visit me, before her DH has been approved?

Technically I think yes. However I would call immigration to be sure there are no snags given the visa in process.

Hi Isostobe, I suggest you should just wait for her visa to be approved before you ask her to come here. I have been in this business for quite enough time and had encountered a situation that Immigration had to call us because they've traced that the helper is in HK while visa is under processed. FYI, visa will not be approved if helper is in tourist visa so they have to be really out of HK. Helped a lot same case as you have now. Anyway, if the file reference is already available, there is a possibility of early approval if you will go directly to them. I know they always say processing takes 4-6 weeks but I can guarantee it can be only about 3weeks or 4 maximum.
Anyone who had any questions, feel free to ask me :-)

Thanks for all the comments ! Her visa approval was finally fairly quick; less than 4 weeks totally. She is in HK now, and we are living happily together. :-)

good for you isostobe! since your gf is under helper visa, but will not be working as a helper, can she look for other job there? will she?
me, i'm still waiting for my friend to get back to hk so he can either hire me as helper or find me an employer. :)

It would be illegal for her to have another job on a DH visa. I guess she could look for another one, although AFAIK even looking might be considered illegal on a DH visa.
Please support our advertisers:
No, she is not going to look for another job. She just stays with me. :-)

I agree. Anyone here on a FDH vis (or any other vis for that matter) is legally bound by the conditions of that visa - and is not necessarily free to do as he/she wishes. There are options for changing employers and visa types, but both need to be done within the existing conditions of stay in HK.

just to remind you.... if you have signed a contract, you're bound to fulfil your obligation as an employer...i'm guessing you probably know this, but you're meant to pay her monthly wages of above legally allowed minimum wages.. i'm sure your girlfriend doesn't mind not getting paid at this moment but she'll have all the right to claim unpaid salary later if anything goes wrong..

Surprisingly, I've only just discovered this thread...
Because I would like to know if anyone can say if a (legally employed) DH can get married while she is working here? (ie. on her solitary day off, once a week -- forget the honeymoon for a while....)
I would imagine she CAN -- she certainly doesn't need the "permission" of her employer, and I wouldn't think she needed permission from Immigration either, as, while she cannot VOTE of course, she is entitled to all other human rights -- of which the right to marry is just one of them.
Can anyone positively confirm -- just in case there should be any difficulties?

I don't really see the problem with getting married here. I mean as long as Filipino/Indonesians etc can get married here in the first place the DH status should not make a difference.
