My thread is similar to vabu ( 35 days ago)...just am a bit puzzled still...
My DH started with us last year. She did not have any leave after her previous contract ended with her previous employer. According to Immig. she has to have 14 days leave in her first year of employment with the new employer, under the circumstances, as her visa is valid only for one ( even if the contract is a 2 year contract). I too need to find out if we are obliged to pay her.
The internet site is not very clear on that, so I called the Labour Dept. They said under labour law...it should be unpaid leave as its in her first year of employment with us, but requested we confirm with Immig as that could be an Immig rule. So, I called Immig...they asked me to call Labour as they do not deal with payments, just the leave in the first year law!!
So, I am back to square 1- As she has to go on leave in the first year, is it paid or unpaid?? ( As the leave is after her old contract & has nothing to do wth us). When she finishes her 2 year contract with us, I understand it has to be paid 2 weeks leave...
Can anyone help? thanks in advance for your replies...

I'll try to clear it up.
- Leave between contracts, as in this case, is unpaid (unless you want to pay). This also applies if it has been deferred as you have done.
- "Ordinary" vacation leave accrues all the time but need not be given during the first year. This is paid.
