Can any body advise, if a helpers passport expires inSeptember this year, what would be the latest date before expiry we can send her back to Fils, as we don't wish to renew her contract which expires in November this year, so intend terminating earlier.

Hi Beancurd, our helper has not been great, some quite serious incidences, she was given a written warning at Christmas, and has continued to make problems since then, my husband would not fire her because he doesnt like doing that kind of thing, and his name is on the contarct, so we have put up with minor theft, things being broken, 20 odd tropical fish dead while we went on a fortnights holiday in May, despite being given written simple instructions on how to look after them. So as her contract of work officially expires in mid November and her passprt before it, she is due for a return ticket to Phils, (or holiday) at the end of her contract, she will be given time to find another employer with one months notice if somebody wants her, but she will only get a very honest reference from us, stating the time started and finished this contract. She has never had a contract renewed by any employer or completed a full 2yr term in the whole of the 26 yrs she has worked inHK , This tells a story in itself I think!I have posted various problems we have had on the forum before, because quite honestly she has driven me 'mad', as I am the one who puts up with her most of the time, so I think we are being more than fair, I know passport renwal is up to her, but she thinks we will renew her contract despite being told we won't, because we are only probably going to be in Hk for a short while, as I am retired and my husband retires soon, and we wouldn't because of the problems we have had with her anyway, we have done well to hang on as long as we have.

Your helper would need to get her passport renewed long before her contract expires. Philippines requires at least 6 months validity for travel.

If she is going back to Phils, it does not matter when the passport expires. She is going to her home country, and HK immigration will let her leave HK even on the date of expiry itself. 6 months validity of travel applies for foreigners going to Phils.
