What should we do?

My helper has a 13 years old kid who is blind. She went home two months ago to let him have an operation. Since she came back to Hong Kong, she has been really emtional and absent-mind frequently. I had a talk with her over the weekend and knows she is worrying about her kid all the time and think about to go back. I asked her to think it again during her rest yesterday. This morning she said she would love to leave in a month. I really feel sad for her and do hope she could go back to take care of her own kids since that is the most urgent thing to do for her. What can I do to terminate the employment relationship with her? It looks she does not want to show it is her who wants to resign. She hopes I can terminte her on my side. Would that affect my employment record? Any suggestions?

I also need a helper urgently since my son is only 2.5 years old and both of us have full-time jobs. What would be the best way to fast the progress? Thanks.

Thanks a lot. Looks she really wants to go back. Recently, everytime when she mentions her kids, she would cry and could not stop, which cause me crying too. She is our first helper and have taken care of our son for 1.5 years. Although she does not know how to cook, she indeed has a good relationship with us. Even she was hestitate about going back, I do think she should go back to take care of her kid because I do not want to regret if anything bad happens to her kid.

If it wouldn't affect my employment record, I am fine to sign the termination on my side. She already used up all the annual leave ahead of time, but I will give her some extra money as a gesture to thank her for the time with us.

the reason she wants you to terminate her is to get the money and the flight ticket. no other issues on your side, simply make that call

Thanks, cookie09. Should I just write a termination letter to specify the reason and send it to immigrant deparmtnet? Or I can ask my agent to help on this? Thanks.

I plan to pay the ticket no matter what. Sounds I can let the original agent to do the paper work. I am exhausted on managing the change already, so hope the agent could help on ending up this one too.

You must pay the ticket anyway but that is beside the point. If she gives you one month's notice and writes a resignation letter saying the regrets resigning but must attend to her sick child in the Phils, she will not be judged for it. If you are feeling generous, you could say she could resign and as soon as you hire a replacement, she can leave and then she also doesn't have to pay one month in lieu of notice. That way you may have a new helper in 2 weeks and she can be with her family. Best of luck.
