I'd like to employ a sri Lankan or Indian FDH, but very few advertise on asiaxpat. Is there an agency that specialises in these nationalities?
Any advice gratefully received!

Just out of curiosity, and answer only if you want to, why do you want a helper from those particular countries?

Can you actually hire a FDH from India. I didn't think there was an agreement for that between the two governments. Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines yes...but India?

Hi
I am look for part time 5 hrs a week what shall I do. Please help. How does it work.

Hi Talk,
I don't know whether you realise, but it is illegal to hire an FDH as a part timer, she is under contract to her full time employer, big fines if you do, and if she steals off you, you do not 'have a leg to stand on". Even if the FDH tells you their employer doesn't mind them doing part-time work, it could all backfire on you.
If you want Legal part time, then you need to look at Merry Maids, or employ a hong kong local permanent resident. You may also look on HK Imm website, they have a section if you search for their own agency for part timer Locals.

I think that the database of locals available for domestic help is available through the Labour Dept website.

I assumed you could hire Indians as they advertise on asiaxpat...will check that, kenwin.
Good luck with your helper, pandancake!
I'll keep on with my search...

You can hire indian helpers, otherwise known as nepalese fdh, but live in india (on the border). i just hired one on recommendation from someone else who has a nepalese helper and this girl is wonderful. PM me and I will give you details.

The last time I checked "Nepalese" and "Indian" are about the same as "Chinese" and "Japanese" or "Australian" and "New Zealander".

well yes Nepal is a different country but they do speak same languages ie Hindi-some cultural similarities -kind of like Australia and NZers...and yes I second the vote of confidence for Nepali helpers ...can't say my experience -short and disastrous-with Sri Lankan ex helper would move me to hire another -Nepalese speak good English for starters...

What makes you assume another Sri Lankan would be bad just because the first one was?

True in the best of all possible worlds but to be honest I'm well , once bitten .... not prepared to take a chance again . I'm not meaning to be overtly racist but this nationality word of mouth seems to be recommended also as I said good English was important to me...and my experience has borne these impressions out so far...
