bank account for full time helper

Does anyone know of a bank where my helper can open an account without having to make a significant deposit? If not, is there another way to pay the helper so we can keep a record/paper trail?

HSBC requires 5k minimum deposit and maintaining balance or they'll charge a monthly fee. I'm not sure about other banks.

However, you can give your helper a cash cheque, which you can photo copy if you want and have her sign in. She could draw it from your bank and will be required to show her ID and affix her signature at the back of the check.

I believe that I read on a previous thread here that Hang Seng will open an account for a helper with five hundred dollars only.

If by "paper trail" you just want proof for her and you that you've paid her, I just make out a proper receipt on my PC which she and I both sign (we both also count the cash in front of one another), and then we both keep a copy of the receipt. I think most employers who pay cash do this.

I do the same as LOJITT, except that only she signs it.

Thanks All! My helper opened up an account with Hang Seng Bank. As suggested the bank allowed her to open up an account with a minimum HK$500. The account has facilities for remitting money and converting currency. Thanks Again.
