How to find a Domestic Helper without going through an agency.

Ask everyone you know. Check the listings on this website.
Note that unless the helper is already in HK and has finished her contract, you must use an agency for processing even if you find her with other means.

Thousands of helpers most with references here: http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/helpers/

There are a couple of exceptions to this rule. If the helper has been terminated because her employer either died, went bankrupt or is leaving HK permanently, you can also self-process and the helper does not have to return to the Philippines between finishing her last contract and starting with you (she applies for an "extension of stay". She must, however, return at some point during the first year of her contract.

Actually I prefer to hire someone with finish contract with at least 2years experience in Hk.

Azi- just to clarify- a helper could still be terminated half way through a second or third contract with the same family (so could have much >2 years experience in HK and history of finishing contracts). Not sure if you want someone with prior experience of an expat family, but if you do, it's quite common for these helpers to be terminated mid way through because the expat family is moving from HK and the helper either cannot accompany them to their next place (for immigration/ personal reasons) or doesn't want to leave HK herself as many have friends/ family here and are very settled.
Obviously, your preferences are your preferences, but a completed contract isnt necessarily a sign that the helper is fantastic, and a termination under one of the exceptions I mentioned can provide a good opportunity to find a fantastic helper- I'm speaking from personal experience
Best of luck.

AZ172... that is not actually correct...
If you want to hire direct i.e. without the assistance of our agency there is a fee of HKD200 - for this fee you are able to view the contact details of all of the 100's of helpers advertising on AsiaXPAT... you may contact and interview as many as you like - there are no additional fees/commissions involved should you hire someone...
However if you prefer to have the help of Evelyn and her team in assisting with identifying appropriate candidates and handling all paperwork etc... (i.e. using our full agency services) there is a fee of HKD2000 payable by the employer (I believe that is the lowest fee charged by any agency in HK)... the helpers pay ZERO in the event that Evelyn places them (other agencies by law are limited to charging helpers 10% of a month's salary... many of them violate that law often taking advantage of helpers whom they know are within days of having to leave HK if they don't find an employer...)
I hope this clarifies our fees - if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to post them here or contact me directly
