Hi everyone, we're considering hiring a part time helper and would like to get some advice.
As far as we've been told, it's illegal to hire a helper on a part time basis unless she is a permanent resident here. Is that true? I see the number of ads looking for part time helpers and I hear stories of people doing that it just makes me wonder exactly how big the risk is.
I would go local but they don't seem OK with my dog. The one who claimed she was OK with dogs asked me to lock him up when she was around, others simply said no.

Yes you are quite correct, it is illegal to hire a part-time helper, big fines if caught out, plus if they steal from you you don't have a 'leg to stand on', because you can't report theft from someone you have employed illegally!
You can employ a permanant resident of hK, but check their credentials to make sure.
There are part-timers available through agencies, such as Merry Maids, if you go that way you could ask specially for one who likes dogs.
