I have just signed an agency agreement to process my direct hire currently living in the Philippines. The agency costs are $3,250 (all incl) with no charges to the prospective helper by their Manilla office. I was happy with this arrangement but when I went to sign the contract and pay the cheque I was informed I would also need to pay $1,200 for mandatory Philippine Government Helper Insurance, due to a new regulation which was not covered in their previous literature.
Can anyone verify that this is correct - i.e. that the employer pays it and that the $ amount is correct. It seems an alot of money to me?

I believe that is true about the insurance....and you will also have to pay for their flight to come to HK also. As for the initial cost, I am not sure if that is the running rate as I have just begun and still in the process of finding an interested employer

Sorry...you misunderstood. I was saying that I am trying to find an employer for a friend and am looking to absorb the cost so now I have an idea of what the agency is charging the employer (so now I have a better idea of how much I will need to cover). :) I'm not sure of the exact amount for insurance but 5000 bucks total sounds reasonable to me.
