My husband has left me, our helper was employed under his name. As he keeps threatening he wants her to work for him at his house, I am worried I might be without help (I have 2 children and work part time). My monthly salary will not be enough for immigration to let me sign for her, but of course he will have to carry on paying maintenance for the children. Will immigration take this into consideration?

How awful that he wants to take the helper when you need her for HIS kids.
First thing's first, when he signed the contract, did he use the address of the apartment you currently live in? Well, if he did, he'll get into trouble if he takes her and asks her to work at another address.
I would go to immigration and speak to them as well. What if you can prove that you have sufficient income with your monthly salary + maintenance pay from your husband?
Alternatively, you could use a local part-timer (the govt's job centres have plenty) and just have her work the hours that you're away.
Worse case scenario, if your children are young, they have government childcare centres that don't cost a fortune.
Friends can also help. Say if you pay them a fee for looking after your children during the time you're away?
