We've been transferred and our DH has agreed to accompany us. What are the formalities with HK Immigration? I've gone through their site but cannot seem to find it...or maybe I am being obtuse coz so much to do. Any help much appreciated...

The best thing to do in your case would be to email HK Imm, state where you are coming from, nationality of Dh, and proposed address in Hk.

Hk require 4 identical forms to be filled in to hire an FDH, with proof of your income, HK address etc, and they also require the FDH to be a live in position. Usually whilst forms are being processed, the FDH is not allowed to work for you, or be in HK until all the forms are completed, which takes 6-8 weeks. They may insist you FDH goes to her home country while the processing is done, plus she will need a HK work visa as well.

If you have read the web site, employing an FDH in HK, there are lots of rules, and fines for breaking them, so in your case email them with all info you have, they usually reply within a working day or two.

Sorry my post was unclear. We are leaving HK and taking our DH with us. What is the process for canceling her contract?

You need to contact Immigration of the country you want to take your helper to, as they will still need a Visa to stay there. Also your FDH will be covered by the countries minimum salary as a wage for the type of domestic duties she is doing, you won't be allowed to pay her what you do in HK. May be HK Imm can give you more of an idea about what other countries will expect, or the embassy of the country you are hoping to transfer your FDH to, there may even possibly be age limits for her to enter another country. For example my last DH's previous employers considered taking her from HK to Singapore, but were not allowed to as the FDH was already 57yrs old. Good Luck.

Yes, but what about canceling her HK DH visa?

All you have to do is send a letter to immigration stating why the employment is ending (your transfer) and the date when her HK employement will end.

Your DH may also have to inform her country's consulate.
