Dear all,
I am in HK for work only for 5 months (Jan - May). I cannot get a HK ID because my visa is less than 183 days. Helper agencies said without an ID I cannot hire full-time helper. I have 2 kids and need help in order to work.
Does anybody has similar experience? Can you advise alternatives?
Much thanks!

If you are working and do not have a valid HKID card, then you are working illegally and who ever is your employer is liable for a huge fine. You need to make sure of your own legal standing in HK, never mind hiring a helper!!
In addition to a HKID card, you need proof of residence and proof of income in the form of $15000 per month.
Why don't you see if you can hire a local person to help you until you can get yourself sorted out with the HKID card? No need to have a formal contract.

hkwatcher - that's not correct. You can only get a HKID card if you have a visa with validity of at least 6 months.

Yes Hksailing is correct. I spoke to immigration and they confirmed that with 5 mon stay I cannot apply for a HK ID but can work under the visa. Thanks to you both. I am looking into the government part time helper info.
