I have asked our Domestic Help team to pass along questions that are frequently asked about hiring a domestic helper -- I will be sharing them on this forum on a regular basis.


Many employers are uncertain which public holidays their helper is entitled to.


Do helpers have the same number of days off as everyone else --- or are they eligible for fewer days?


And the answer is ... no...
Domestic Helpers are not eligible for the same public holidays as the general population in Hong Kong.


There are 14 statutory holidays for 2024 that that your FDH is entitled to.
The 14 statutory holidays for 2024 are:

2Lunar New Year's Day10-Feb
3The third day of Lunar New Year12-Feb
4The fourth day of Lunar New Year13-Feb
5Ching Ming Festival4-Apr
6Labour Day1-May
7The Birthday of the Buddha15-May
8Tuen Ng Festival10-Jun
9Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day1-Jul
10The day following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival18-Sep
11National Day1-Oct
12Chung Yeung Festival11-Oct
13Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day (at the option of the    employer)                              21 Dec
                          or 25 Dec
14The first weekday after Christmas Day*26-Dec
