i dont really know how much the helper has to pay the agency as it is the agreement between the agency and the helper. i was told i have to pay 3000 dollars excluding the medical check up and insurance. and if along the two years i dont like the helper due to some reason and wish to terminate her, i only have to pay an extra 700 for the paperwork and a one way ticket for the helper to go back to her country. the agency will then give me a new replacement and i dont have to pay anything extra for it at all.
i know the helper will have to pay a certain amount of commision to the agency, in malaysia it's 6 month of wages. it's quite commom it seems. anyway, my thoughts are that it's better they charge her than me, if i really like her work, i can always pay her bonus at the end of the month to make things easier for her.

I think you'll find that the 'special effort' made by Asiaxpat to 'look after' Indonesian helpers is the exorbitant fees charged compared to helpers from elsewhere. Perhaps Ed could comment on that. I understand that one of the reasons the Indonesian consulate likes to use certain agencies is that there's 'money to be made' - by everyone except the poor helper.

i think my case is slightly different from yours. i went to the agency looking for a helper from them. you, on the other hand, already had someone in mind but you need the agency to process the paperwork for you. in that case, i dont think the agency will charge the helper as much because this looks more like a direct hire case. but just to be sure, why dont you call martin up and ask him about this?

We are unable to help with bringing down the fees for processing Indonesian helpers visas.
We have applied to be accredited but it appears that its a closed shop - the consulate will not accept our application nor will they accept my phone calls.

Trust me .... that aint the reason - I have spoken to someone who runs an agency.
As you are aware the agencies are forcing the helpers to pay more than the legal 10% of a months salary. Wonder what happens to the extra fees that they are collecting????

i think even though the agency charges more than a month of wages, many indonesian helpers are still willing to pay for it. think about it, they can easily earn the money back in a couple of months time. but if they dont go through the agency, they cannot find job at all due to the rigid rules of the indonesian consulate. hong kong is the best place for domestic helpers to work because it pays the highest as compared to other asian continents like malaysia and singapore.

Hi, I hav been through all this as well and managed to get a rate of HK10 000 as we were going to bring in our 2 helpers from Bali. Howevever, they have decided not to come now. It is really difficult to employ Indonesian helpers from Indonesia. THere are lots of Indonesians already in HK. From experience it might be better to interview and meet potential candidates rather than go through an agency with someone you haven't met... Good luck. I spent months on this and in the end we have a filipina but are lookiing to see if we can find an indonesian lady to work with us as well..

taverner, i got my indonesian helper from the agency and i get to interview them before hiring them. i called up the agency and told them my criteria ( eg babysitting experience ) and the agent will get the candidates ready for me. i just turn up in their head office and there were 5-6 girls with contract finishing waiting to be interviewed by me.i would never hire someone without actually meeting them.

From my experience, i first hired a filipina. we signed the contract and she said she will bring the contract to the agency to be processed, we never heard from her again ever since. as we need helper urgently because i was pregnant, we go for indonesian and i guess we are lucky because she is excellent. i guess once bitten, twice shy so i need i will not go for filipina again.

jazzy67, full-time live out helper are not allowed by the immigration department, no matter what the reason is. If you state that your place is small and there is no room for the helper to sleep, they will not grant your request to hire a helper. Filipino helpers are more hygienic compared to Indonesian. Might be due to different backgrounds and also because Filipinos are more educated than Indonesians and are more accustomed to Western culture. For example, Indonesians if you did not specifically tell them, will use the same towel to clean your table, wipe your dishes and dust your furnitures. Filipino maids are smarter and do speak English better than Indonesians. But, Indonesians are hard working and doesn't complain even if you ask them to work for longer hours or change their day off to weekdays. Just a tip to everyone. If you want to hire immediately available Filipino helpers, make sure to hire one through an agent just to be sure that the papers are truly processed and not just gyped by them. Of course, there are still honest and good Filipina maids out there. But being careful is still better than being taken advantage of.

I found my Indonesian helper through an agency in HK. She has girls that are finishing contract in HK so you can interview them and even arrange for trials. She'll bring the girls to you. The fee to you is free, and she charges the girls 6000 HKD, which is a lot less than what most of the other agencies charge.

i have never asked my helper how much the agency charged her. just out of curiousity i asked her last night and she said 10500 which includes her trip to shenzhen for 2 weeks and lodging there while waiting for her visa to be processed. i am shocked!!!

Yes, they do fight back. I dont think people who hire indonesians do that merely because they are nicer to bully. no, sometimes it's a matter of preference. like me, i have tried hiring Filipina twice but twice unsuccessful. And the first indonesian i hired turned out to be great. i dont think indonesians are stupid, at least mine is not. i tend to agree with mochie99 though that Filipinas are the brains behind this.

i'm agree.. indonesian helpers are not stupid. it's just the 'good' nature of people from this country. they tend to be loyal, obedient, and very tolerant. especially the suburban people. my mom in law, she's got a helper who's been working for her for nearly 20 years. amazing.. i'm actually in process of appliying visa for my helper. she used to work for us before. and she's very good with my 3 year old daughter. i got an agent in jakarta, who helped me out with all the paperwork required by Ind Consulate and Hkg Immigration. however for the aplication process in hong kong, it needs to be done by the employer (in this case myself). by doing this way, i save my helper from paying fees to anyone. later, she can get her full salary from the very first month. because she's a good candidate, so she's worthy. it's just a little bit 'time consuming' to get this done. cheers..

Here I have the phone number 2895 2333, I used ot get the helpers from that agency and there fee are very cheap. My helpers paid that agency for $340 and I paid the fee of HK$2,500. It's already including the medical check up and evrything.
