hi there, has anybody who has hired a helper from asia expat pls. let me know how reliable is the 'employer reference' section given there? when i saw the method to post an ad for a helper, any helper can just make up a refernce and write anything about herself!! how can we verify this if we are using this bit for first screening? can someone form asia-expat answer this pls?

They are probably as reliable as the reference letters/CV that any employee submits when applying for a job - therefore I would strongly advise you call the employer who issued the letter and check up on your potential new hire.

Well.. actually we have upwards of 800 helpers register each month so its very difficult for us to pre-screen them (Sundays in the office are complete madness as it is) so we leave that up to the potential employers.
If you want some screening services I would suggest you engage Evelyn (HKD2K to do so) - she will send you only top notch candidates.

We have had encountered two domestic helpers who lied about their references and they were both from Asiaxpat. The references turned out to be local/expat friends. My advice is, SPEAK TO MORE THAN ONE former employer. If they have only one, ask them for a second.
We ALL have to provide at least two referees in our CVs so I have learned to expect the same from domestic helper applications.

I tell you frankly,some helpers are doing all the remedies for them to be hired and have a job.Speaking of "references","calling the previous employer",or either "recommended by another employer",is not a big deal or great answers for what you are longing for, but its the way you deal,its how you communicate with them,its the way you treat them,or its the way how you want them to do their task inside your house.Come on,its your luck if you found a helper that is right for you or vise versa.I mean,its also a helper's luck if they found a good employer.Not all emplyers are good though.Whether you are a helper or employer,we're not all perfect....
