Our DH had to go back to the Philippines while she awaited her visa. We were told the visa could take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks. In the end it took about 5 weeks for us to get it.
Our DH bought a 30 day ticket with our money (from Ph to HK only). Because the ticket expired she had to buy another ticket. On going to the travel agent, they said that fees were more than the ticket so that there was no refund.
We're going to follow up the travel agent, as I'm concerned that they may be taking advantage of our DH.
So the DH bought the ticket herself based on the advice we both had received. She hasn't asked for us to pay for (just for an advance to pay back the money she loaned to buy it). And while it's not our fault it's also not her fault. My question is, do you think we should pay for the additional ticket? Do you think we should split it half and half? Or just leave it to her?

If it is not going to be a huge financial burden for you then I would pay it and start out the contract with her in good circumstances.
I guess you could also try in a reasonable way to make it clear that you are not doing this lightly (you do not have bottomless pit of money). If you decide not to pay for it, then I would advise making it a loan with repayments over the longers period you can (say twelve months) so that the amount deducted out of salary each month does not become a burden.
I guess this is a good point for others buying tickets or advancing the money that you need a flexible airfare or get only singles -which is what I think most people do as the processing time regularly takes from 6 - 8 weeks now and in some cases may not be approved at all.
