employing a Fillipino DH from China

I am looking to hire a Fillipino DH who has never worked in HK but is currently working in China. I have all the paper work and was going to drop into Immigration tomorrow to start the ball rolling, but after browsing these threads tonight not sure if that would be wasting my time.

Can anyone advise whether I can do it all myself and then get the DH to obtain the chop in China from the Phil. Consulate or do I need an agency even though I have done all the legwork myself?

I don't see how this is different from the DH working in Singapore, or Dubai...etc. The problem is how you can sign the contract and her to sign it, and all the supporting documents gets sent to the Philippines Consulate and the immigration of HK !?

Good luck. I think you are going to need it if you plan to do it on your own. Last I have heard, the Philippine Gov't changed their rules and policies again.... making more and more difficult for their own people to work overseas/abroad.

I have heard a number of employers (friends) experienced the DH didn't come to HK after the visa was issued because of missing documents, or wrong documents... etc.

It's more than a chop from the Phil Consulate. It's more simple if your DH was already working for you and you are just renewing.

I am not sure if this helps you or not, but you should know that there are no such things as DH contracts in China. Therefore, they do not have any processing at the Phill Consulate, there just isn't a contract to process. A DH can work in China, but under a certain type of visa that is expensive to renew. The employers have no guarantee the DH will stay so they don't wish to pay for the more expensive visa.

The DH doesn't have any job security so they don't want to put out any money for the more expensive visa in case they get fired suddenly.

If you are bringing your old helper to HK from mainland, you can do a direct hire, but you need all the paperwork in order and the DH won't have any legal standing here in HK until the contract has been processed.

I suggest you get an Agency to help you.

Thanks hkwatcher and momoftwo. This woman has not worked for us before, she currently works for a China-based friend and apparently all helpers from the Phillipines are experiencing troubles with their ability to continue working there (?) I think I am pushing the proverbial up hill but will bite the bullet and visit the consulate tomorrow. I tried ringing them unsuccessfully on 12 seperate occasions today. If I have to pay for an agency after having done all the work myself, and then pay for her airfare from the Phillipines and wait the (maybe) months it will take to get her here it may make more sense to start looking around again for a helper already in HK. Shame really, especially for her. I hate to think how she is going to find work quickly if it really is that hard.
