hiring someone from Philippines-directly

I am about to terminate my current helper. She is soo driving me mad. but that's a different story :-(

Anyway, I have this really nice woman 'on hand' who used to work for a befriended family. Currently she is living in the Philippines, but would like to come to HKG again. Question: what expensed will I and of course will she have when we agree on her working for us? What papers does she have to hand in? I know she needs to do this 2month course or so, but does any if you have experienced such direct hiring and could advise me?

Thank so much

We just did it. It is relatively easy, so long as you have all the papers. Then it doesn't cost either of you any Agency fees. If she worked in HKG before, she should'nt have to take the course again, ours didn't.

we hired someone direct. the course wasn't two months - only a week i think.

it does take a long time. 6 weeks to process the papers. we used an agency to process them but it actually would have been quicker to do it ourselves (6 weeks as opposed to 9 with an agency!!).

we paid for the course in the philippines and the cost of processing all the papers and visas. i can't remember how much exactly, but it wasn't too bad.

I think you could get info on direct hiring from the immigration dept. they are fairly helpful.

PS - good luck with the termination. we are about to do the same (not with the one we hired direct though - she is great!).

six, what agency did you use to process the paper work for the direct hire? do you still have the contact for the agency?

and where did you get the standard employment contract for the domestic helper?

contracts are available in immigration 2nd floor, if you want to process directly and not through the agency you need personal apperance to the consulate in processing i think still have to interview you..
