I am going on a business trip for two weeks and will be taking my family with me. My helper has requested to stay in a boarding house while we are away as there will be no one home.
Why would she want to stay in a boarding house? She has not provided me with any reason when asked.

had that before. it can get very lonely at home. boarding house has other helpers that they can socialize with. sounds like a good idea to me, since it would also mean that nobody is having parties at your home without you knowing it

Probably get bored being alone.. You can explain to her nicely if you wanted her to stay at home though.

Perhaps not just being bored being alone -- maybe not comfortable being alone in a relatively large place?

Maybe she has a boyfriend she wants to go and stay with but does want to tell you. Or maybe she wants to go and find one while your away. Or maybe she just wants to spend time with friends and chit chat while not looking at the clock.

Your helper is not allowed by HK Imm to stay in a boarding house, she is only supposed to stay in your home.
You could leave her a list of jobs to do while you are away, like cleaning the inside of cupboards, washing the curtains (if you trust her to do it properly). cleaning all your windows.
If she is working she can make sure the home is 'aired' to prevent damp etc.
Make it clear that you expect her to be at your home between certain hours, and you'll phone sometimes to check if things are OK, that way you can hopefully make sure she is not 'moonlighting' and doing part-time work for some one else while you are away.
Also make it clear to her if you do not want her friends visiting your home while you are away, unless you don't mind.
You could leave her with a list of fresh provisions you would like her to get just before you come home, like bread and milk.
She can visit her friends in her own free time, when she is not working.
