I need to buy a return fair for my helper to return home in July for 2wks holiday and when talking about it she suggested Phillipines Airlines allow extra baggage allowance and don't query if its over 20kg so would rather fly them than Cebu. Does anyone know if this is the case? Cebu is much cheaper flight price so if its not true then I'll get Cebu ticket.

its 20kg for check in luggage and 5kg-7kg for hand carry luggage.. ITS THE SAME FOR BOTH AIRLINES.
altho PAL (phil air) may let you have extra allowance if it isnt much (say under a kilo)

Sorry, but my experience is totaly different to the last poster and is based on using both airlines in the past 2 months
PAL - if you buy a domestic worker ticket through your travel agent - which is cheaper than the normal published fares - includes 30 k of baggage (plus I think up to 7 handbaggage)
Cebu Pacific which doesn't have special domestic worker fares and whoes normal fares are almost the same once taxes and extras are included has a very strict 20 k rule. When I was last checking someone in to a Cebu Pacific flight, the person in front was complaining that they were only 2 k over and couldnt afford to pay - reply from staff was - "we are not a charity - we are a budget airline and every extra kilo must be paid for!"
Hope this helps - I can see why your helper would prefer PAL!

From what I can see, every helper tries to get out of flying with Cebu. Mine tried delays, inconvenient flight times and no food as an excuse. I ended up booking on Cathay but got annoyed with myself afterwards because my family and I fly on budget airlines, so don't think it's unreasonable to ask our helper to do the same.
A friend's helper said that her friends would think that she did not care about her helper if she booked her on Cebu Pacific. Another friend's FDH said that she was too scared not to return alive, so my friend said that she would pay for the Cebu fare and her helper could pay the difference between that and CX/PAL, but suddenly she was not so scared for her own safety.

I think it's up to the employer which ticket they buy especially when an employer is providing a free ticket home for a holiday. If a helper isn't happy with it then she can get her own ticket.

I agree with Moppet - i had that very same issue with my helper, but the truth is that the price difference was just far too big between the two airlies.. I bought Cebu. Mum of 2, so funny! mine said "dont put me on Cebu if you want me alive!" I did research and printed it out for her - both airlines are pretty much the same when it comes to crashes, so no excuses there!
