our present helper is:

1. forgetfull but always remembers to cook rice

2. loves cracking my hubby's hazelnuts ( she asked me " madam can I finish it? I said no!!! leave some for mister, they're his favorite.

3. after her shower during the day she would dress in her big tees like sleep clothes almost like ready to go to bed

4. oh yeah ( being a former helper, I'm very much aware of those " can I advance my salary madam" and yet just days upon her arrival that was the case.

5. a week after she wanted more, I just said no more advances!

6. Even having worked as a helper and knowing the " savoir faire " still I was at lost dealing with one.

1. I find even for myself, 'to do' lists are a great help.

2. Can't help with that one!!

3.Perhaps you could let her know that whilst you want her to be comfortable you would like her to be reasonably well presented (just in case you have guests drop by could be a good reason).

4.If her pay periods are once a month, perhaps it would work better to be payed once a fortnight for her? This would be like getting ½ a months salary at a time. If you agre to this, make sure you have the agreement in writting.

5. You're the employer, you decide what goes. You need to be fair but she needs to be reasonable.

6. It's great to have insight and be able to empathise.

Are you seeking for some kind of wisdom or simply just want to make fun of the " mistakes" of the helpers? Personally, I do not find it very classy and one would wonder if you do not have anything more productive to do with your time.

Anyway, in case I was wrong and you do need/seek an advice it should be very simple. Having been a maid yourself, straighten her out the way you would have wanted your employers would have been with you.

Soufffle Q, why I said make it fun? not because I am making fun of their mistakes. I just felt its better to turn it into "fun" rather than be frustrated for having someone who repeatedly makes & forget things. I do know that no one is perfect but I can tell one who refuses to do things better. And pls don't question me if I'm being productive w/ my time!

simple solution:

1. post its were invented for a reason or have a bulletin board, write stuff down, its always helpful. stick post its to the fridge or her bedroom door. (my boss did this once coz i tend toforget little stuff. it made us both happy)

2. give her her portion. or tell her no or just simply tell her to buy her own!! (kidding)

3. aaahh the big tees and jog suit trousers. the standard dh uniform. ask her to wear her "outside clothes" ie stuff she would wear to go the the market around the house

4. just say no. what can she do?

5. again, explain to her.. and say no nicely.

6. play it by ear. you'll know what to do.
