Visa to UK for Domestic Helper

ORIGINAL POST

I have poured over the UK in Hong Kong website's Visa section, and I still can't quite figure out which visa my domestic helper should apply for. We are US citizens and I will be accompanying my husband on a one-week business trip to the UK and will bring my 8-month-old son and hope to bring my helper along to assist with childcare.

I can't find a specific 'Domestic Worker Visa' - only an 'Employment' visa. Anyone have any experience with this recently?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Why don't you call the consulate and ask?

kmalia,

there is a specific visa for a domestic helper visa for the UK, if you visit the consulate there are blank sets of forms that you can take that need to be completed alongside the application - they can give a (long) checklist of documents you need when submitting the forms. Be aware - one of the hardest things to do is getting an appointment, so book the appointment online at least 20 days before you need the visa (in fact book 2 appointments as the chance of turning up with exactly the right forms are minimal - my experience) and all visas are processed out of Manila now so it take at least 15 days to get a visa through.
