My helper, like most, supports a family back home and has recently run into financial problems as I think they are not working quiet demanding of her money. She's upset and worried that she's not making her repayments on her house or saving for her future because of this.
Does anyone know of a financial advisor I could arrange for her to see (if she wants to) to help her budget more efficiently (ie someone who could advise on what she needs to save, mortgage repayments, budgeting reasonable set amount for her family in the Philippines etc - I have no idea, least of all what is reasonable there).
I'd also like to set up some kind of pension fund for her that we could contribute to. Any ideas?
She's a great lady, and I'd like to help out.
Many Thanks.

Maybe the helpers aid place attached to St, Johns cathedral has a kind of adviser or counsillor to help her manage her money better. but try to impress on her not to get invloved with loan sharks, I hope she hasn't already become involved with them, as this could bring big trouble for you.

I don't think that's an issue, she's pretty sensible and doesn't get caught up in that kind of thing - I'd just like to help her address it before it become unmanageable.
I'd prefer if I could find a professional advisor to assist, one who wouldn't push any kind of loans etc. and has good knowledge of how these things work in the Philippines.

I think that the St John's suggestion is good and I'm fairly sure that they do have such 'courses there' And, depending on whether your helper is the type who will read books and absorb the message, it is quite possibly a better option than 'DIY' via a book. My husband used to run such courses at a church in Wanchai, but that he discontinued about 5 years ago and nobody picked it up. I think they were very helpful to the helpers who participated.
