We are going back to our home country and would like to take our DH with us. However, obtaining a work permit for her there will take around two months during which she needs to stay here.
Obviously if we cancel her work permit she cannot stay here. The questions is
- do we have to cancel her work permit?
- does her work permit get automatically cancelled when we surrender our HK ID cards?
- can we cancel her work permit here from a distance once we obtain her a work permit in our country? or this doesn't matter it can expire by itself
Advice will be greatly appreciated as we would love to take her with us since we have twins and she is very good with them.

Interesting issue. I would call the Immigration Hotline and ask.
One question: Do you have to surrender your HKID cards at once? If you can keep them for the two months, she can stay in your employ even if you are out of the country.
Worst case she can stay in her home country for the two months.

I don't think you have to surrender your ID cards.

That's comforting. If we don't have to surrender our cards then she can stay. I will call immigration as well but any other comments/experiences will be appreciated. Many thanks.
