Amah Sleeping Out

ORIGINAL POST

My Amah is 58 years old. Over the xmas period she slept out on a few nights, returning the next morning. She did ask and I did agree. I just want to know if this is normal practice as this is the first time she has ever asked to do this ?

I think it is quite common with helpers working for expats but I know it is definately not allowed when they work for locals. I think it's because the local families want a tighter control on them and do not trust them to stay over anywhere as they have no idea what they get up to. They are afraid they will come back pregnant or something. Hence the reason why many helpers want to work for expat families.

My helper had her sister sleep over at our place, I think when a couple of public holidays fall together it saves on them travelling back and forth on reduced timetable public transport all day to see each other.

My helper stayed out for 3 days over christmas, to be honest I'm glad she stayed away. Christmas is a family time, and as much as I appreciate her help she's not family. She also usually stays at friends on bank holidays too.

Here's the sad story ,my helper sister just arrived on November because its her first time to spent christmas without her family so my helper ask me if she could invite her sister to stay over and spent the christmas eve with us,when her sister asked her employer the answer is"you are not allowed to be out at night"!really ridiculous ,its her off anyway the following day.Employer seem to be heartless not to allowed her helper for even a night

to those who ask about the helper sleeping out? Well I am a helper, I sleep out sometimes but I"m always on time for work. I do go to wanchai sometimes but not all people who goes there are doing something bad, if it is then those employers going there should be banned as well?? Shame on you to those employers who does not allow your helper to stay out. We're humans too not slaves either..
