I want to ask if anyone has experience of changing a DH package from inclusive of food to exclusive?
Our DH is great, apart from the food/drink aspect,(she adds on expensive food for herself to our bill whenever she does the supermarket shopping, drinks endless canned drinks and coffee, leaving jars empty in cupboards as I guess she's too embarassed to admit she's eaten or drunk the whole jar, which is really annoying) and I want to change her current package from inclusive to exclusive. We currently pay her 3800HKD inclusive - can someone suggest what we should pay her exclusive?
Thanks

If the terms are written in her contract it may be difficult to change as you have made a promise in wriing to pay her that ammount including her food. If it isn't written in her contract then you can change it. If the first situation is the case you could speak to her and tell her that she is only to buy the things on the list and not to add items herself. She can tell you a few things she likes for you to get but not endless drinks ec or expensive items your not happy with. Perhaps also talking to her about how you fell will help and explaining that you feel she is taking advantage. Or you can give her an allowance of anything from HK$300 a month up for her food. I don't think this is enough and part of the reason salaries are low is to take into account room and board but it is up too you.

We changed with our first helper. She started off eating what we did, but after a while asked if she could have a food allowance as we didn't eat the same type of food as she did. Since then we've always paid a food allowance of $500 a month.

Most helpers are chuffed if you offer them HK$500 a month for food. There's really no clear way to document it but here's what we did.
a) Wrote her a letter saying as of X date we were amending the contract no. XXXXX to no longer include food, but exclude food. From x date she would be recieving a monthly food allowance in advance of HK$500. Get her to sign and date the letter e.g. "I have read and understand the above, signed XXXX".
b) Give her a receipt with her money. So say you pay her on July 29th you write on the receipt that she recieved HK$3800 salary for 01 July - 31 July and that she recieved HK$500 food allowance for 01 Aug to 31 Aug. Again get her to sign it.
Although you are not amending the contract you can still document the changes in the contract.

Mrs Miggins is once again spot on!
You can change the food inclusive to exclusive as long as you pay what is written in the contract ( whatever amount you have put for the food allowance bit)Minimum is $ 300/- & your can pay her more if you wish too.
Just document it all!
