ORIGINAL POST
Posted by Roosh 18 yrs ago
I have just hired a new domestic helper - she arrived on the 8th of this month and tells me today that she is pregnant and wants to abort. She already has 2 children, aged 10 and 4.

What do I do? I don't even know if it is legal or illegal in HK or where to go. She has spoken to her husband and they both to abort but i am not sure of my position in this situation....pls help

Oof!!! She is of course legal. I hired her remember.

My question is whether abortion is legal or illegal in HK. Is it as simple as going to a pvt doc and getting it done?

When my helper became pregnant she went to see

Dr Maria Magnifica Chan

10A Success Comm. Bldg

245 Hennessy Road

Wanchai tel 2519 9762

She charges $300 for the consultation and will then refer the patient on for further treatment to a public hospital.

Although my helper is having her baby I believe termination of a pregnancy is legal in Hong Kong. This doctor should be able to point you in the right direction, my helper said she looks after lots of Domestic Helpers.

It will become Roosh's problem if she doesn't put her DH in touch with the relevant resources. Family Planning Clinic is the best option but they are strict on timing - you need to make sure she's not more than 10 weeks otherwise you'll need to go private which could cost around $13K.

Abortion is illegal in Hong Kong unless there are special circumstances, such as if there is risk to the life or health of the woman or baby.

You can find some information about it here: http://www.famplan.org.hk

it is not illegal in HK - go to a doc and get a referral letter to queen mary hospital...will cost nothing (well maybe about 200$)

From what i have gathered it is not illegal in HK....and i agree with Blitzing as i would rather be safe than sorry. I will take her to the Family planning clinic as that seems to be a safe bet....thanks a lot guys for all your suggestions

I think you better tell your employment agency about this. This is their fault in the first place. As I know from the experience of my sister in hiring an overseas domestic helper, the agency has to have the helper tested for pregnancy, HIV, Hepa B, and sexually transmitted disease, twice. Before and after her arrival here in HK. This, I think is SOP since you can not fire a helper because of her pregnancy. You can only terminate her after she gave birth. So, I think your agency is really at fault. I also agree with qoqis. If you help her with her abortion, make sure you let her sign that it is of her own decision and not yours. Make sure that she cannot use it against you if your relationship goes bad. Good Luck.

Why would you need to fire the woman. Holy cow I'd love to be some of your employers and treat you the way you treat others.

This might help you out... http://www.famplan.org.hk/fpahk/en/template1.asp?style=template1.asp&content=services/clinic/surgical.asp
