Please can anyone provide me with salary guidelines for a driver.
Also is it permissable for them to do 'odd jobs' when not driving?

Hi, Usually drivers got a high salaries than DH. as I know $5,000-$10,000, if the boss quite rich, they pay more.

I interviewed the following:
1) 6 months HK driving experience, Filipino- asking salary $ 3500 plus live out expenses and food allowance.
2) 4 years HK experience Filipino: $ 10 000, plus $ 2000 live out rent, plus $ 1500 food, plus $ 500 transportation.
3) NO HK experience, but driving for many years in Manila- $ 3480.00
4) 14 years of experience, completed every contract, perfect record of driving in HK- $ 13 000
For your comparison: local chinese (HK ) drivers, they charge $ 11 000-$ 15 000 a month. No contracts, no live out expense. Nothing, just the monthly salary.

local driver is easy to go if they do't like the boss, but those driver with signing contract it will long last if the employer is kind and good. thanks

In case not suitable (either party), it is easier and not so complicate to let go of local than oversea driver - just a thought!

if your looking for locals, salary is 9k-11k plus o.t. plus mpf and 13th month pay plus bonus not to mention the "red calendar".. and they will not last for at least 10yrs( unless you pay them good salary) i know a driver once, he work for my boss almost 15yrs and his salary is hk$35,000 but he's not just a driver he's also his butler. if your looking for FDH, the salary is hk$3,480 (but nowadays nobody grab that kind of offer) normal salary is 6k for stay-in , but if you don't have much space in your house and you want your FDH to rent a room, you will have to provide room payment which cost around 2k (electric and water incl.)plus food allowance ?(depends on you and your FDH's)plus tranportation expenses. so ithink isalary will range about 9k and for sure you're gonna have a driver for 2yrs. less "holidays compared to locals",but also have hk$400.00 levi for each month and if you treat your FDh some incentives (like with the locals but at least it'not mandatory, a little of it will do, i think) most likely they will serve you for many years . goodluck...
