I've decided no agencies, I only want to speak to previous employers...how can I advertise on here?

See the text link below your question. We have 500-800 new helpers register with us every month most with reference letters - most of the few remaining agencies actually use our site to find candidates so doesnt make a lot of sense to use agencies anymore eh...

thanks I've been looking but I wanted to list my own requirements. As you can see from thread below, I've been badly stung.

You cannot advertise your own requirements as such on here. You can plough through the list and look for those that best seem to fit your needs and then go on from there. Alternatively you can take out an ad in a publication like Dollarsavers and list all of your specific requirements and see what turns up - but as with any job you will still get some who don't meet ALL of the listed attributes and it will still be up to you to conduct some form of selection process. Good luck!

Inkonkini, you could try Dollarsaver or supermarket ad etc. We tried listing our requirements with agencies (which you've sensibly decided against), but all we got was people who claimed to have the attributes that were after - on closer questioning, their resumes were works of fiction. We had basically put words in their mouths.
Second time around, we did what TC suggested and trawled through the postoings on this site. It meant that I had a shorter list of intervuewees, but generally of much higher calibre. I only called people with decent employer references posted online. Just one note of caution though -some of these were ancient, with multiple sackings in between. I soon learned to ask the date of the glowing reference. Good luck!

Only issue with only going with the listings on this site (or placing an ad on Dollarsaver) is that you are more than likely to find helpers who previously worked for an expat family (or was referred by a friend who works for an expat family).
As you know, there are pros and cons to hiring someone who previously worked only for an expat family. I think most of the horror stories you read about on this site are from expat employers. There could well be an equivalent site where Chinese employers vent about being cheated by their DHs but I don't know of any.

Miss P, what exactly are you disagreeing with? No one is saying that DHs are not grateful for having an expat employer. In fact, that is probably the reason you see as many "horror story" threads as you do (surely, you've seen those threads).

I can't believe I feel so guilty about firing her. She is begging me to keep her on "for her children", fact is I've already done that by giving her a "chance" last year. She was going to run off and marry some guy without giving me notice and without paying back the money she owed me. Then her conscience got the better of her and she asked me if I would mind. I hit the roof then. The guy ended up dumping her and I took her back. Now this. I just don't know if I have the energy to train another one. Man this sucks.

You may not think you have the energy to train another one but this one will probably give you more headache than she's worth. I'm sorry to say that she is definitely not putting her job first... and over what? a boyfriend and overseas phone calls that she can't pay for. You can already terminate her with cause for fraud/theft or lost of trust.
Let her go. She's had her chance. There are better helpers out there who know how to value their jobs. Don't let her work her notice too. Good luck.

No need to give her notice given that you are terminating her for cause (stealing).

Hi! inkonkoni, you could always ask your agent to let you interview the maid and ask for her previous employer's contact no. or at least to let you talk to her. At least, my sis agent let her do that.
