Ive been looking for a FT DH ,and have come across this very strange behaviour .....even before I can start asking the questions over the tel.,Im bombarded with ,what nationality are you , do u work , how many kids do u have , what will be my salary etc etc

Is this normal behaviour that everyone faces , or am I the only unlucky one !!

Would love to hear from others ........

Makes me feel as though I am the one looking for a Job

These questions aren't abnormal per se. I think the way in which they are posed may seem a bit brusque. While many of us are used to interviews in a corporate environment, helpers are not. They often lack a certain "smoothness" during interviews. That is, if being interviewed at an office we might also ask plenty of questions, but we would slip them in more discreetly.

I would not take a candidate off the list because she asked these questions. I might, however, tell her that I will be glad to answer questions at the end of the interview.

I fully understand just as how I want to find out more about the helper , they have every right to know what my family is made up of and I myself tell them what the job would entail, but firing questions at me ,even before Ive had a chance to speak is something I find very rude and arrogant and somehow I feel upset ....at the attitude being shown and also find it very difficult to accept racism from them, just because of a few rotten eggs

This happened to me when looking for a new helper. When I called up one lady she asked me straight away how many children and how much was to be paid. When I told her 4,000 she told me she wouldn't do it for less than 5,000! I only have two children 4 and 8 of age and I don't work so am always around to deal with the kids and all the shopping etc. How rude!!!

Joeuk, I think that that lady was just being honest with you or just tried to turn you off. As pointed out in some threads, some helpers don't want stay in employers, big houses, grandma or grandpa at home, etc.

As employers, we can choose helpers. As helpers, they can choose employers. Isn't that fair?
