GV, an interesting thread starter!
1. The standard visa does not allow an FDH to drive the family car for any working tasks. If they are insured, etc as such I believe the fringes of the law would allow for them to drive for their own private use. Any other use requires the permission from immigration.
2. Yes
3,4,5 - Kinda makes the employers feel important!
6. It's not fully within the law.
It seems they are working outside of the immigration rules if they are acting as full time drivers.
I think what most people don't seem to understand that in the event of an accident the vehicle insurance is invalidated if the driver is working outside of the scope permitted by immigration and believe me insurance companies will check. If found to be the case then both the driver and employer can face possible police charges as well as be financially responsible for any damage caused whether they are at fault or not.

why does it matter so much about what your friends are doing? are you jealous? do you want a driver too? are you going to report them if they're doing something wrong? does it make you think less of them as a person? are you going to tell them to stop if they are acting beyond the law?
it doesn't sound strictly legal though who knows, they may have been living in hk since they were five and have a right to work in any job they like.

At the time of application, you can add clause that you want your DH to drive family around, for errands. he cannot drive you to work, it is against law.he can drive rest of family anywhere you want.if he has local driving license, your car and him, are covered by insurance,if you have comprehensive insurance of your car.

GV,
I've been in HK for 10 years and my impression is that almost all of the work these chauffeur DHs do is legal, and just the one hour (approx) per day they spend taking their employer to work and back home again is not.
