severance pay?

My friends contract has not been renewed,therefore is leaving h.k. does he need to give his helper severance pay? She has worked for him for 6 years and he was full of praise for her until recently when due to communication error she gave away an $8 000 bottle of red wine

Yes - after 5 years he needs to give her either severance or long service payment. The wine thing is bad luck - he can deduct only $300 per month for breakages etc.
