Our helper started about just 6 month, we are plannig to take time off for vacation around christmas for 2 week.
We ask our helper if she is consider to take time off, basiclly she is getting a 2 week paid vacation.
Does she pay for her own airline ticket to go back to her country? Do I need to pay for that?

From my helper's point of view, she said it's not her fault we're going on vacation! Why should she be forced to have a vacation not to her own liking?
Apparently, it's very expensive for her to go to her hometown. Airfare, gifts, other transportation expenses, etc.
After working for you for 6 months, I think that your helper has not saved enough yet for a vacation.

So, I should just tell her, is really up to her...
She could stay in HK while we are away or we allow her to go back to visit her family if she wants at her own expense.. since she only work 6 month, she has not yet entitle to a pay ticket for annual leave? is that correct?

Sorry, I just have one more question..
So, let said next year April, she will be with us for 1 year, then she is entitle to annual leave for 1 week, do I have to pay for air ticket or no?
I am confuse with the air ticket thing..
Thanks for the help

Try to forget about specifics (on dates, start and end). rule of thumb is, for every 2-year contract the helper gets a round-trip ticket to her place of origin. So, if you give her a round trip ticket this December, she can't ask/demand for another one whether (a) the contract ends after two years, (b) you terminate the contract even before the two-year contract duration, (c) she terminates the contract before the end of the two-year duration. In each of these three cases, you need to provide for the air ticket.
However if this December's trip is a "gift" from you, then she can demand for another one. Besides, helpers usually don't go home to their hometown once a year. Usually they do every two years.

Thank you punter for the answer.. Now I understand..
I did made it clear to my helper it is not mandatory for her to take holiday/vacation back to the Philippine while we are gone, she could stay in Hong Kong if she perfer.
Because the ticket is about 3,000 hkd, she said is too expensive for her..
Anyway.. we know how much she miss her kids.. which I fully understand as a mom.. therefore, we going to help her.. Ticket is book and is DONE!!

Just a note. At the beginning and end of contract, you owe not only airfare. You need to pay for door-to-door transportation, including any buses, ferries, aircraft, taxis and so forth. Also including food allowance if it is a long trip.
