My sister heleper after being employed only two months want to quit claiming because my sister smokes and thats unconfortable with her.

Note that my sister only smokes in the dining room cause she have children and doesn't want to affect them with it.

Since when you have to check with your helper

if she is ok about smoking in your own house?

My sister is now a little bit upset after all the expenses she had for her.

Any comments?

Agree with barbara30. Seems a very valid reason to quit. Unless your sister smoked at the interview or warned her that she was a smoker, she was probably surprised to have to inhale second hand smoke (it's not as if she applied for a bar job). If she does not want to waste money next time that she employs someone, your sister should tell employees of her nasty habit at the interview stage.

you don't have to "check" with your helper about smoking in your own house, but your sister should have let the helper know that she was a smoker during the interview process.

Everyone is entitled to resign if their working environment endangers their health. I'm just surprised that she put up with it for 2 whole months!

Tiger01, but if they are 'in a position to resign if a job is unsafe', why shouldn't they?

There are children working in mines, but it does not make it right. Should their employers be put out because of financial loss if they were in a position to give up for the sake of their health?

Yes, sorry, but I don't see what your sister has to complain about. If she doesn't like her working conditions she's perfectly entitled to leave. If you sister took exception to one of the helper's habits I wonder how long the job would last?

Yeah exactly...and your sister should know that smoking "only" in the dining room is not protecting the children, though on the other had there is still no good evidence of second hand smoke causing disease.
