Reasons for dismissal

I'm about to terminate my helper's contract with payment in lieu of notice (1 month's salary, pro-rated annual leave and return airfare) and would like to know if I need to give a reason for dismissal within the termination letter.

What's the reason why you terminated her anyway?

I'ts up to you if you want to put the really reason why you terminated the contract as long as it true, just don't make up any reason, because it's not fair either.

No, you dont have to give a reason for dismissal, but in normal practise one does give reasons....so that she knows about it & her next employer does too. When we terminated our DH we stated clear reasons...which she knew all about.

The Labour dept told me that there is no need to give reasons for dismissal. Make it sure that you ask her to pack her stuffs and leave the same day so taht she won't do something crazy like put something on your foods or shampoos and etc.

I think it's only fair to give a reason i'm sure we would all want too know why we where dismissed from an employer. You may have a problem with her that someone else wouldn't mind ie not great with kids and her next employer doesn't have any or not a good cook but they don't require her to be etc. That way she has a chance of getting another job. This is of course different if she has been disshonest but the truth will then maybe help a future employer from making the same mistakes as yourself in taking her on.

All, thanks for your advice. I've already terminated and have asked her to leave the same day. The reason for dismissal was 'general dismissal'. I've given exactly what was owed for wages in lieu, covered allowances, airfare, etc. I don't think she was fit for us but think that with a future employer that can spend a little more time working with some minor challenges then she would probably be better. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do so and decided that this would be best for me. I've already discussed what I thought was her strengths and weaknesses with her next potential employer and think she's going to get hired based.
