Dear all,
I am interested in hiring an Indonesian maild who just finished her 2 year contract here through introduction by friends. Is it true that I can't deal with the processing papers myself?
Thanks

You must use an agency appointed by the Indonesian Consulate - and guaranteed this agency will charge the helper more than the 10% of one months salary to process the paperwork and get the approvals from the Indonesian Consulate.
We tried to get on the accredited list with the Indonesian Consulate so that we could charge the helpers 0 processing fees (as our agency does when we find jobs for helpers of other nationalities) but were rejected.
I'll give you a free AsiaXPAT mouse pad if you can figure out why we were rejected and why the helpers are overcharged....

Is it not very obvious!!! The indonesian Consulate with their delegated agencies are partners in petty crimes. Now may I have my AsiaXPAT mouse pad...ha ha ha

I employ a Filipina and she handles all her documents herself, with authorities in the Phils, the consulate and immigration dept here for renewal. We just sign the documents. I didn't realise it was so different w/ Indonesia. Do the helpers HAVE to use an agency (like a mandatory middle guy), or do they because they are not familiar w/ the procedures? Can they not deal w/ their consulate directly??
(i already have a Asiaxpat mouse pad, nenanenaaa)

With Indonesian helpers, as stated above, they must go through a agency approved by the Indonesian Consulate. Most of these agencies charge exorbitant fees to their maids (between HK$8000 - HK$20,000) who then spend the rest of the time repaying the cost. Obviously the Indonesian Consulate gets it's kickback as well DESPITE the practice actually being illegal in HK.
I personally would never hire an Indonesian helper, not because of nationality but because I would never contribute to what is no more than human trafficking.

Geez! How does the consulate get away with illegal practices???

"How does the consulate get away with illegal practices???"
I'm appalled but not surprised. That's just the way it is in many countries.

Ed,
Thanks for the mouse-pad! That was quick!

If the rehires were not charged so much by the agencies I bet that any newcomers would be charged even more - I am sure it would happen as those in the 'food chain' would need/want to recoup the loss of income from somewhere.
