Hello. We've had our helper for a few months now and would like to bring her to the US for 6-8 weeks with us this summer. I've done some research on the HK and US government websites and it seems like an overwhelming/unclear process. If anyone has experience doing this or recommendations/suggestions on how to get her US Visa approved it would be greatly appreciated.

This statement is totally false. Why are there so many Filipinos in the US then if they do not like to hand out Visas to Filipinos?
The US will not grant visas to anyone who could not establish strong ties with their home country or their country of residence.
Maybe you are refering to domestic helpers who are Filipinos. Not Filipinos.

jwm, do you have a proof to your comment? or some sort of survey that there are lots of Filipinos with expired visa and still staying in USA? just being curious...

There's alot of Filipinos that are OS or Illegal worker in Us. US gov't is giving them one chance every year, they have this so called amnesty thing where all the illegal worker is applying for a visa with the help of their embassies..
most of them are those employers from Hk, singapore etc. took with them to US,if they have the chance to run away they'll do that specially if they have relatives in US..

Maj, this may be true with some Filipinos but not only them. This chance given by the US govt also includes the Chinese (a lot actually) illegally staying in the US.

make sure that you have a valid reason why you need her to go with you. Are you american citizen? Then, probably it will be a little bit easier. But who knows, there are some US laws and some US consulate staff who will say "you are guilty until proven innocent" Their thinking is everybody likes to live in America- because a lot of people do all they can just to stay and be there!!!

Please note, that whilst you may get a visa for your helper to go with you to the US. Whilst in the US your helper must be paid US min wage during her stay and also work no more then 8 hours a day, etc.
All visa's for DHs to the US have these requirements.

hmmm, I thought DH signed in HK contract are NOT allowed to "work" while on "vacation" with employer. I am sure a lot of us do it, bring helper to vacation, continue to pay her "HK salary".... it's actually illegal. But anyways, to answer the original question: I know 4 families who have tried to bring their DH to USA in the last year, FAILED. No reason, just denied the visa application.
I also know China residents (Mainland china)'s visa applications to USA are often denied as well.
I do know of ONE family that successfully brought their Filipina helper to USA for vacation for 2 weeks in the summer. The employer has to be American, with a great supporting letter, a return air ticket to show for, and personal guarantee that the helper will return to HK to continue her contract with her after the 2 weeks.
My friend was pregnant, and with 1 young child. She said she needed the helper to help her take care of her eldest child. She also mentioned medical, financial support totally for the DH.
The DH also must have clean record, and worked with the present employer not less than 6 months.
I don't know what the OFFICIAL requirements are for USA Visa for DH, but what I put down is what I have heard from my friends who need to go home to USA each year.

If you plan to have her work for you in the US, OF COURSE, you cannot bring her with you on a tourist visa. In order for anyone, of any nationality, to get a tourist visa, unless that person is from a visa waiver country, he or she must demonstrate ties to his or her country of domicile.
